Taimen Trout (Giant Eurasian Trout)

The Taimen Trout is the world's Largest Trout (Huncho taimen) 

with a record catch of 231lbs!! Also known as the Mongolian Terror,

the Giant Eurasian Trout, the Siberian Salmon.

The most common bait is a mouse or a rat.

Or if fly fishing- a large artificial mouse.

The Taimen Trout is being framed with my watercolor study

of the Lenok Trout in a Double Watercolor Image Framing

titled "Trout of Mongolia. This is my second double

painting of Asian Fish - with the first being titled

'Trout of India' with the Indian Trout and Tibetan Snowtrout

that are really carp that have the appearance of trout-

therefore, are named as they are.

The Taimen is an amazing trout, as a typical trout is only

2 or 3 lbs, and the Taimen Trout can weigh 100X as much!!

I am continuing my series of Asian Trout

with the Lenok & Taimen Trout, found

in Northern India,Mongolia & China.

Both are very large trout with the Lenok

getting  over 20 lbs. and the Taimen(Giant Eurasian Trout)

getting over 200lbs!! A 2 pounder for a normal trout

is considered a good catch!

I finally finished the second watercolor study of

a mated pair of Chum Salmon.  The Male Freshwater Version

is one of my all time favorite fish.

The Chum Salmon is found in the Northwest waters,

mainly in Alaska. They are great to EAT!

Even better to paint.

As in other paintings, I will be framing the two

watercolor studies in one frame.

While this salmon appears colorful-

like many females in the animal kingdom,

she is almost dull in comparison to the Male of the Species.

The next half of this painting is the colorful half- The Male.

The Chum Salmon is found in the Northwest- most common

in the Alaska waters. It is part of my series of

Salmon and Char Species Watercolor Studies.

This is the finished double Watercolor Study of Indian Carp

that are named trout due to their resemblance to Trout.

As I mentioned, the idea of this Watercolor Study came to me through

an antique book on Game Fish of the World from the 1930's.

The book is a great inspiration- in fact the section on

Cuban Game Fish was written by Ernest Hemingway!

While I like the Indian Trout the best- I could not leave out

any fish named 'Tibetan Snowtrout'! My problem now is

what section to I put this on my web site? I have  Trout Pages

and other fish pages - which one?

One of the enjoyable aspects of these 2 Carp/Trout is that

even though they are only distantly related they have the

 exact same color palette - making the dual painting

work that much better.

A Continuation of my series of Watercolor Studies of

North American Trout Species. I find the color variations 

on the Cutthroat species especially interesting.

This species markings are vary different for the ones living in a lake environment,

compared  to the wild stream version. The lake version is 

Mashed Potatoes to the Stream Version of Broccoli, Carrots and  Beets.

So stream version it is!

'Study of a Golden Rainbow Trout'

I had to provide a photograph of a live Golden Rainbow Trout, just to prove they exist.

They are artificially bred from a mutated Rainbow trout and are stocked throughout PA.

'Study of a California Golden Trout'

This is my first Trout study outside of a species outside of the Susquehanna River Basin Watershed. I am now painting a Colorado River Cutthroat. You can probably guess how I choose them- color and markings. I also just finished the Golden Rainbow Trout, a hybrid sub-species of the Rainbow Trout. It is very similar to the stocked sub-species of the Rainbow Trout- the Palomino Trout.

'Study of a Bonefish'

This is a commissioned work for Dr. Robert Myers. He also commissioned a set of 3 Giclee prints for his fishing buddies. I am now working on some horse portraits for him of his stable of horses.
